Well hello!

Finally have some junk i feel like sharing with the internetz

i was trying to capture one of those small moments. not necessarily something you might write about or tell in a story... just one of those moments...

so i slap in a bit of colour



bit rough at this stage, just thought i'd put it up in case i never finish it, and it gets lost in the bowels of my laptop!

So as you all know, i've been making a significant effort to improve my digital painting skills.

i've been practising using the help of many tutorials online and in magazines.

it's very hard work and has been quite a change to my usual style.

anyway, i wanted to create some concept work for my own comic "between worlds"

I wanted to show the atmosphere of the world they live in through digital painting. something i'd generally find easy to do traditionally, but i felt i could take it one step further digitally, as many more effects are possible.

so i started with some basic linework.


Not the most complex linework as i knew i would possibly be painting over it in photoshop.

The picture is of two of the main characters of Between Worlds. on the left we have Juno, our moody badass with a heart of gold protagonist (my flatmate likes to refer to her as an empowered knacker (or chav))

and on the right in Ridanta, the sweetie witch with delusions of grandeur.

Ridanta teaches Juno how to cast a basic spell.

The lighting is low as it is illegal to cast any sort of magick in the city. So they do it "on the sly" as we say it in Dublin.

So in order to get this across, it is important that I get the lighting and colouring just right as the secretive nature of the action must be implied rather strongly.




I chose a colour scheme of purples and blues for the background with yellows and whites for the lighting.

And on with the show!





So after about 10 or so hours, of panting using a shitty tablet with no pressure sensitivity I have concluded with this, mainly cuz i cant bear to look at the thing anymore.

Now bear in mind, this is my first real attempt at digital painting (that i'm willing to show on teh internetz anyway!)

hey, It sure as hell aint perfect, but you know what, i'm still kind of proud of it. It would be so easy for me to stay in my nice little traditional comfort zone and piss and moan that no one like that sort of stuff anymore, but thats just lame. I want to learn everything about art. or at least get as close as i can to that.
so thats that.


i would apreciate whatever crit people can give, however, as i am still only learning, i would also ask that after your crit, you could perhaps tell me how to fix it! cuz i dint kno nuthin! Thankin yeh!
